Streets, sidewalks, buses, and other transportation infrastructure exists to provide access to basic needs: to go to school, work, the grocery store, a doctor’s office, a local park, other destinations, and home. In this section, we examine how well our transportation system provides access to five basic needs: housing, jobs, goods and services, education, and recreation, and discuss what we can do to remove barriers to these basic needs.
