Moving Dutchess Forward is organized very differently from our previous long-range plans. Most notably, it is a digital plan, designed to be explored online. It is built to be flexible: you can read it in order if you wish, or you can jump to whatever topic interests you. It also features interactive maps and visuals to help you dive into transportation issues in our region.
This plan also takes a broader view than our recent long-range plans, moving away from sub-regions and detailed project lists and towards a policy-driven approach that will guide more specific community- or project-level plans. After introductory sections on regional planning, demographics, and our transportation system, the plan is organized around four goals:
Why a Digital Plan?
It promotes an interactive experience that enables readers to access information at their own pace.
It hosts dynamic mapping, so readers can see how the data relates to locations that interest them.
It creates flexibility, allowing us to incorporate new data more easily.
-
GOAL 1
Learn
Prepare a transportation system that can anticipate and adapt to changes in the population, economy, technology, climate, and travel behavior.
-
GOAL 3
Advocate
Promote smart transportation and land use policies and practices to remove barriers to access and support economic opportunity, environmental preservation, and improved quality of life.
-
GOAL 2
Assess
Provide safe and convenient access for all people to housing, jobs, goods, services, and recreational amenities, regardless of age, ability, race, income, or mode of transportation.
-
GOAL 4
Invest
Make transformative investments in our regional transportation system while maintaining fiscal constraint and leveraging private investment.
Enjoy your exploration of Dutchess County’s transportation future!
